"Sometimes baby, we lose our nerve, but you gotta have faith on a deadman’s curve" From Deadman’s Curve
"Finely crafted, tastefully produced…wide audience appeal." Yukon News
Working with some of the finest players, singers, producers, and engineers in the Yukon, Manfred delivers a solid collection of delightful tunes that range from folk to blues, from country to rock n’ roll including "High Wind" which has caught the imaginations of northern audience since its debut, twenty years ago.
Familiar Ground captures the simple beauty of time spent at home in the Yukon and on the road travelling, wandering, and musing. Manfred has a way with words, melody, phrasing, and style that help create this lovingly crafted and textured portrait of the artist as a mature musician.
Familiar Ground also traps on tape some of the excitement of Manfred’s live performances. His show is intense and brilliant whether playing solo or accompanied by a ten-piece band. His guitar playing is reminiscent of the pounding rhythms and expert acoustic playing pioneered by guitarists like John Martyn and Bruce Cockburn.
Familiar Ground is an opportunity to hear one of Canadian folk music’s hidden treasures playing and singing a collection of songs that are honest, compelling and seem achingly familiar even at first listen.
